Look at your house through your puppies eyes.

Keep your shoes out of puppy's reach.

Just ask my daughter Amanda how many shoes she went through?

Do not get mad at your puppy, Get smarter!

Get it out of the way.

       Puppy Proof Your Home !

killsock1.gifPuppies are like babies they are naturally curious and they teethe. They will go through a second teething period, and start chewing things again, just when you thought it was over. Taking steps now can protect them from hazzards and keep you possessions safe as well.

killsock1.gifPuppies love to chew.  Make sure you have plenty of chew toys.  If you catch him chewing something else, say no in a firm voice and replace it with his chew toy.  Praise him when he start to chew the toy for good behavior.  This will teach the correct behavior.

Houseplants

Many cause a threat to your puppies health. Poisonus ones include philodendron, English Ivy. Outside plants such as oleanders and yews also are poisonous.

Unplug, remove, or cover up electrical cords (we used cardboard to cover them up behind desks where our puppy could get into). If your puppy chews wires it can lead to severe burns, electrocution or fires.

                                       Toxins       valentine7.gif

Keep toxins away your pet's reach. Such items may include household cleaners, specific types of plants, alcoholic beverages, chocolate, and substances like antifreeze. Antifreeze is particularly dangerous to dogs and cats alike. Even a small amount can be extremely toxic and often pets don't realize the danger. And it tastes good too.

There are a few foods that can give your Chi some problems.

  • Dark Chocolate - This is toxic to dogs, and can kill your Chihuahua. Don't even give them tit bits now and again, as the toxin in chocolate slowly, builds up in the body over a period of time till it poisons them. There are many doggy chocolates on the market they are a much safer and healthier option.
  • Onions - Do not get your dog onions again this acts as a toxin and can make your Chihuahua very poorly
  • Bones - Everyone knows about chicken bone are bad for dogs, this is because they splinter and can perforate the bowel. Img56.png

                                   Give Positive Re-inforcement

Puppies learn what behavior is acceptable by the way that you react to their behavior. If you praise a dog and pet it when it does something right it will want to repeat that behavior so it receives the positive attention.

                        Close Supervision Is Essential
Close supervision is essential any time your puppy is not crated indoors (or confined to a small area covered with newspapers) . It only takes a few seconds for your puppy to have a house soiling accident, so watch for signs that your puppy may need to eliminate, such as sniffing the floor, circling, or running out of sight suddenly.
