Most people don't
like putting their puppies in a crate because they feel they are
punishing their dog.
Dogs love the crate! Dogs want
their own den. They feel secure and safe in small close
spaces.
Crates make
excellent dens.
Put the crate in a place where the
people are. For example, the kitchen.
Select a crate the appropriate size for
your dog. Big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around and
lie down.
If it is too big he may sleep in one end
and soil in the other.
You shouldn't crate your puppy for long
periods of time. Your puppy will start to wonder what they
have done to be separated from the pack.
Your puppy will develop better bladder
control about 4 months of age.
Never put food or water in side the
puppies crate because it acts as your puppies den. His
instincts will tell him not to soil where he eats and sleeps.
If you put food inside he may need to eliminate after a
meal.
By scheduling your puppies meals your
are training his digestive system to work on schedule. Take
him outside shortly there after, give him a designated elimination
spot and wait as long as necessary for him to do his
duty.
When he is done praise him.
Puppies love to please!
